Patients are referred to the Dermatology Unit mainly by their local doctor or from the Emergency Department or other Units within the hospital.
Urgent appointments can be arranged by the referring doctor contacting one of the Dermatology Registrars.
The Dermatology Unit runs 4 General Outpatient Clinics and 2 Procedure Clinics weekly, and provides consultative and management services for Inpatients.
Skin cancer surgery forms a significant part of the work load. Most of this surgery is performed on the same day as the consultation.
Other services include phototherapy (narrow band UVA, whole body PUVA, hand/foot PUVA) and iontophoresis.
Teaching is provided for Medical Students, Resident Medical Officers and Registrars.
